In the United States, eyeglass prescriptions are typically valid for 1 to 2 years. You can upload a photo of your prescription at checkout, email it to contact@offdayeyewear.com, or enter the values manually during ordering.

An eyeglass prescription lists these values:

• OD = right eye, OS = left eye
• SPH (Sphere) — power correcting nearsightedness (negative) or farsightedness (positive)
• CYL (Cylinder) and Axis — correction for astigmatism
• ADD — extra magnification for reading, used in bifocals and progressives
• PD (Pupillary Distance) — distance between the centers of your pupils in millimeters

Pupillary distance (PD) is the distance between the centers of your pupils, measured in millimeters. It ensures the optical center of each lens aligns with your eyes. Adult PD typically ranges from 54 to 74mm, with 63mm being an average.

To measure PD at home: stand about 8 inches from a mirror, hold a millimeter ruler across your brow, close your right eye and align the ruler's zero mark with the center of your left pupil, then without moving the ruler close your left eye and read the number over the center of your right pupil. Your eye doctor is required to provide your PD on request.

Yes. OffDay Eyewear offers non-prescription (plano) glasses with clear, blue-light-filtering, or tinted lenses. Select the "Non-prescription / plano" option at checkout. This is ideal for fashion frames, computer glasses, or a backup pair.

Yes. OffDay Eyewear offers four lens types:

• Single vision — one prescription across the full lens (distance, intermediate, or reading)
• Progressives — a seamless gradient from distance at the top to reading at the bottom, with no visible line
• Bifocals — distance vision on top with a visible reading segment on the bottom
• Readers — one reading power in both lenses

We can't fill an expired prescription for regulatory reasons. Book a quick eye exam (most independent optometrists offer same-week appointments) and upload the new Rx to OffDay Eyewear.

No — OffDay Eyewear needs the actual written prescription. Some optical shops can "neutralize" your current lenses and provide a written Rx, but the safest path is a fresh eye exam.

Not currently. OffDay Eyewear focuses on prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses, and specialty tinted lenses.

Yes — but OffDay Eyewear will need the recipient's prescription and PD. If you don't have those, a OffDay Eyewear gift card lets them pick their own frame and lenses.

Yes, digital gift cards are available on OffDay Eyewear and are delivered by email.

Every frame has three measurements printed on the inside of the temple, in millimeters:

• Lens width — width of one lens (typically 45 to 58mm)
• Bridge width — space between the lenses (typically 14 to 22mm)
• Temple length — length of the arm (typically 135 to 150mm)

Yes — any frame on OffDay Eyewear can be ordered with any of the 18 tint colors, in your prescription or plano (no-Rx).

OffDay Eyewear tints are permanent and won't fade under normal wear. Sun exposure over many years may slightly lighten the very lightest fashion tints, but sunglass and specialty tints hold their color indefinitely.

Yes — gradient tints are available on request in gray, brown, and rose. They're great for driving because you get sun protection up top and a clear view of the dashboard below.

Yes — every pair of sunglasses on OffDay Eyewear, prescription or not, blocks 100% of UVA and UVB rays.

Darkness is about visible-light comfort. UV protection is a separate chemical filter. A very light tint can still block 100% UV, and a very dark tint without UV protection can actually damage your eyes (your pupils dilate behind the dark lens, letting in more UV).

Yes — any OffDay Eyewear frame can be made as prescription sunglasses with a solid tint, gradient tint, polarized lens, mirror finish, or Transitions.

Gray (true color, cuts brightness), brown or amber (enhances contrast, great in overcast or rain), and G-15 green (classic, balanced). Polarized gray or brown is ideal for daytime driving.

Amber or brown polarized. The polarization kills water glare, and the warm tint helps you see below the surface.

Rose, copper, or amber. These enhance contrast on green grass and yellow balls.

Rose or amber polarized with a mirror finish. This blocks glare off snow and increases contrast on flat, overcast days.

OffDay Eyewear corrects myopia with concave (minus-power) lenses, marked with a negative number on your prescription such as -1.50 or -3.75. The higher the number, the stronger the correction. For prescriptions above about -3.00, high-index 1.67 or 1.74 lenses keep glasses thin and light.

Hyperopia, or farsightedness, is when distant objects can look clear but nearby objects — especially reading material — look blurry or cause eyestrain. It happens when the eyeball is slightly too short or the cornea is too flat, so light focuses behind the retina.

Common signs: tired eyes, headaches after reading, difficulty concentrating on close work, and blurred near vision. Mild hyperopia often goes unnoticed in young people because the eye's focusing muscles compensate.

OffDay Eyewear corrects hyperopia with convex (plus-power) lenses, marked with a positive number on your prescription such as +1.25 or +3.00. The plus lens moves the focal point forward onto the retina.

Astigmatism is a common condition in which the cornea or lens of the eye is shaped more like a football than a basketball, causing light to focus on multiple points instead of one. The result is blurred or distorted vision at all distances, streaks or halos around lights at night, eyestrain, and headaches.

OffDay Eyewear corrects astigmatism using toric (cylinder) lenses, indicated on your prescription by CYL and Axis values — for example CYL -1.25 x Axis 90:

• CYL power neutralizes the uneven curvature
• Axis (0–180°) rotates the correction to the correct meridian of your eye

Astigmatism can be corrected in single-vision, progressive, bifocal, and reading prescriptions.

Presbyopia is the age-related loss of near-focus ability, caused by the natural lens inside the eye becoming less flexible. It usually starts becoming noticeable between ages 40 and 45.

Early signs: holding menus or phones farther away, needing more light to read, and tired eyes after close work.

Presbyopia adds to any existing prescription and is measured as an ADD value on your prescription (typically +0.75 to +2.75). OffDay Eyewear offers three ways to correct it:

• Readers — one reading power in both lenses
• Bifocals — distance on top with a visible reading segment on the bottom
• Progressives — a seamless gradient from distance at the top to reading at the bottom, with no visible line

Most first-time presbyopes start around +1.00 to +1.50 and gradually increase over time.

Anisometropia is when the two eyes have significantly different prescriptions — usually a difference of 2.00 diopters or more between them. It can cause depth-perception issues, double vision, headaches, and difficulty adapting to new glasses.

OffDay Eyewear can correct most cases of anisometropia. To reduce the size and weight difference between the two lenses (an effect called image-size aniseikonia), we recommend:

• High-index 1.67 or 1.74 lenses for stronger prescriptions
• Smaller, well-centered frames

For very large differences, your eye doctor may also recommend contact lenses on one or both eyes to eliminate the image-size mismatch entirely.

Yes, glasses are often part of the treatment plan for both conditions.

Amblyopia (lazy eye) is reduced vision in one eye that did not develop normally in childhood, often due to an untreated large refractive error or misalignment. Correcting the underlying prescription with glasses is usually the first step, sometimes combined with patching or vision therapy prescribed by an eye doctor.

Strabismus (eye misalignment) is when the eyes point in different directions. OffDay Eyewear can make prescription lenses with prism, which shifts the image the eye sees to help align it. Your eye doctor will write the prism power in prism diopters and the base direction (in, out, up, or down) on your prescription. Prism corrections can be made in single-vision, bifocal, or progressive lenses.

Yes. Computer vision syndrome — also called digital eye strain — is caused by prolonged screen use and can produce tired eyes, blurred vision, dry eyes, neck and shoulder pain, and headaches.

OffDay Eyewear offers several lens options that reduce it:

• Blue-light filtering lenses — cut some of the high-energy visible light from screens
• Anti-reflective coatings — reduce glare from monitors and overhead lighting
• Dedicated computer / intermediate lenses — focus at the typical screen distance of 20–26 inches, more comfortable than distance lenses for long hours at a desk

For evening use, an amber tint provides stronger blue-light filtering to support natural melatonin release.

Yes. Light sensitivity (photophobia) and migraine sufferers often find relief with the FL-41 tint, a rose-colored filter clinically studied for softening harsh fluorescent and LED lighting, reducing migraine frequency, and easing post-concussion light sensitivity.

OffDay Eyewear offers FL-41 as our Serenity Sleep Lenses, available in plano or in any prescription. Polarized sunglasses can also help outdoors by cutting glare from roads, water, and snow.

If light sensitivity is new or severe, it should be evaluated by an eye doctor to rule out an underlying condition.

Glasses correct how light focuses inside the eye, so they cannot treat structural or disease-related conditions of the eye itself. Conditions that need medical or surgical care from an eye doctor — not glasses — include:

• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Macular degeneration
• Diabetic retinopathy
• Dry eye disease
• Keratoconus in later stages (often needs specialty contacts or corneal treatment)
• Eye infections

OffDay Eyewear can, however, make lenses that improve comfort and vision while these conditions are managed medically — for example, high-index lenses after cataract surgery, tinted lenses for light sensitivity, or updated prescriptions as vision changes. Always see an eye doctor at least every 1 to 2 years to catch these conditions early.

Standard glasses correct current vision but don't slow progression. Some specialty myopia-control lenses can slow progression in children — OffDay Eyewear doesn't currently offer these.

Yes — glasses are often more comfortable than contact lenses if you have dry eye. Adding an anti-reflective coating helps reduce squinting at glare.

Transitions lenses are photochromic lenses that automatically darken outdoors in sunlight and return to clear indoors. They contain trillions of photochromic dye molecules embedded in or bonded to the lens material. When ultraviolet (UV) light hits the lens, the molecules change their chemical structure to absorb more visible light and darken. The stronger the UV, the darker the lens. Indoors, where UV is minimal, the molecules reverse and the lens fades back to clear.

Most standard Transitions lenses do not darken well inside a car because modern windshields block the UV light photochromic lenses need to activate. If you want more tint while driving, choose Transitions XTRActive, which is designed to respond to visible light as well as UV and will darken moderately behind the windshield. For most patients, Transitions lenses are worth it because they replace two pairs of glasses with one. Benefits include:

Yes. All Transitions lenses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays at all times — both when the lens is clear indoors and when it is fully darkened outdoors. Fashion color custom tints are permanent cosmetic color treatments applied to your prescription (or non-prescription) lenses purely for style. Unlike Transitions lenses that change with UV light, or clear blue-light coatings designed for screen use, fashion tints stay the same color all the time.
